About Toto

The band Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Taking their name from the Latin word that means "all encompassing," the group was intent on exploring all styles of music.

The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was a failure in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hit songs with the title track and 안전놀이터 Roseanna. The album and tour helped them become a household name across the globe.

After a break of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It marks a step away from the ballads of their previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.

In the course of recording the fifth album the group loses their manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to record a new album and change their name an alternative producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and embarks on an extensive worldwide tour. After several weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. The band broke up following this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to benefit the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in over 31 year that all of Toto's original members were on stage together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

Toto has remained one of the most loved rock groups for more than three decades, having scored massive hits such as "Rosanna," "Hold The Line,"" and their 8X-platinum smash, "Africa." Despite their fame The group faced a few challenges in their final years. In 2002, keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes took a medical leave of absence. Shem von Schröeck was brought in to replace him, but the band wasn't the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, a string lineup changes and a string of disappointing releases prompted Toto to break up for a period of time. The group returned to the road in 2012 following the release of the album 40 Trips Around The Sun.

The album was a return form for the group and the tour supported it with sold-out shows across North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gathered momentum after the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
