3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is ideal for off-road terrain and provides a smooth ride for baby. They can also be easier to maneuver and push than a four-wheeler, particularly those with fabric sling seats or seats that are set snugly in the frame, delivering the most efficient geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

Three-wheeled buggys are extremely stable, making them an ideal option for off-road walks (especially when equipped with a seat unit that is all-terrain or off-road). These buggys often have oversized front tires that can withstand bumps, kerbs and rough terrain. Some models even come with a lockable front wheel to give extra stability when driving on uneven terrain.

It's important to keep in mind that 3-wheel buggies have a lower centre of gravity than models with four wheels which means that they topple over more easily. That said, the best 3-wheel pushchairs are designed with perfect geometry and engineering to ensure they are solid in all conditions. They should be able to turn at a single click, be easy to steer with just one hand, and have a 360o swivelling front wheel that makes them great for maneuvering and navigating challenging terrain.

For really tricky surfaces, look out for models with air-filled tyres, also known as pneumatic tyres, which are designed to handle non-paved tracks and should cope with dirt, gravel, and more. These are designed to handle dirt, cobbles, and grass tracks easily and still provide an enjoyable ride. They are also ideal for jogging because they come with built-in suspension and are easy to climb up and down kerbs. However, the trade off is that they can be quite heavy to push.

A fabric sling is also available. It's a benefit that it is positioned inside the frame, instead of being placed on top of it as a modular seat. This means that it has a lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier and lighter to push, particularly over bumpy terrains or curbs. MFM reviewer Kath really liked the way that this style of seat handled these obstacles.

This type of buggy comes with a large basket and other beneficial features, such as an hood that can be extended with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal, and some unique visibility lights that can be placed on the front of the passengers to increase safety on rough terrain.

Storage

The 3 wheel double pushchair-wheeled frame is much more sturdy and can be moved with just one hand. It's also ideal for difficult terrain. However, it means that the shopping basket doesn't hold as much as a four-wheeled buggy.

A high-quality ATP will come with pneumatic tyres, a cushioned grip for comfort and excellent suspension. It should also be equipped with car seats and a carrycot and you can use it from birth.

MFM's reviewers discovered that the 3-wheeler frames didn't pass through their doors at home or car boot. If you're worried about space, be sure to verify the dimensions of the buggy once it is folded prior to purchasing.

It's worth looking for an SUV with three wheels that can fit 2 (or even 3!) seats as your family grows - these are the most efficient of both and future proof your money. Tyres

Air filled tyres are designed to give your child a more comfortable ride by cushioning out bumps and uneven surfaces. She also noted that its grippy tyres made it easy to navigate kerbs and cobbles.

These tyres can sometimes prove tricky to keep inflated and will need to be filled regularly. These tyres are more prone to punctures, so you should always have a repair kit as well as an spare inner tube with you when you're out and about.

PU tyres can be seen on more pushchairs than the air-filled tyres, yet they're still as durable. You can identify PU tires by their smooth appearance and soft feel. They also glide well on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.

If you move your hand over the tyres you can tell if they are PU or rubber. If it feels like it is sliding then it's a PU. You can also test whether your buggy comes with PU tyres by sliding them onto flat, clean surfaces. They should roll smoothly and fit snugly into the wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. The downside is that the foam may shrink and make your buggy feel less stable, because it loses its springy quality. You'll also find that these kinds of tyres can often be noisy as they create a lot of noise as you turn and make your way around the town.
